The talk will look at the long and varied history of the Esher Place estate, from the building of a medieval bishop’s palace by William of Waynflete in the 15th century, through a succession of different wealthy owners to its present ownership by a Trades Union. The work of distinguished landscape architect William Kent will be covered, as well as the surviving Grade I listed Waynflete’s Tower, the gatehouse of the old bishop’s palace.

Nick Pollard is Chairman of Sunbury and Shepperton Local History Society and Curator of Spelthorne Museum in Staines.

Location: The Abercorn Room at Painshill

Organised in aid of Painshill Park Trust Limited, registered charity in England and Wales (284944). We rely on fundraising to preserve and maintain Painshill for future generations so your support is very important to us.
