About
Painshill boasts a south-facing sloping vineyard from the top of which you can enjoy beautiful views across the North Downs. The grape varieties include Pinot Noir, one of the varieties grown by Hamilton in the 18th century, as well as the modern varieties Chardonnay, Seyval Blanc and Pinot Grigio.
It now produces a yearly harvest. Painshill wine, an award winning sparkling white or rose is produced and sold in the shop.
History and Restoration
The vineyard was turned into a rockery by the Victorian owners and, when the Painshill Park Trust was formed, it was a series of large rock steps. The area was replanted by the Trust in the 1990s. Modern trellising is used everywhere apart form the last three vines, where the 18th century method of growing is demonstrated.
