Painshill is 160 acres of amazing 18th century gardens with follies and garden buildings to discover including the sparkling Crystal Grotto. There are ancient woodlands to explore, wildlife to discover and wetland birds to spot on our beautiful lake.
Outdoor Adventures
- Make the most of the landscape and tailor your visit to specific badges.
- Trail maps to find as many species of wildlife: butterflies, ducks, trees (depending on the time of year)
- Nature Detectives work booklet, to help the children engage with their surroundings all year round.
- Journey Sticks: Tribes from North America and Australia made Journey Sticks to remember what they had seen on a journey and where to find useful things like food and water. Collect sticks and foliage to create your own story.
Access from Heyswood Girl Guilding Camp
Heywood Camp is directly next to Painshill. Discounts are available for groups staying in the camp and you can enjoy direct access to the landscape.

Special events
Throughout the year Painshill has a number of trails for children, including Easter eggs, Fairy Doors in autumn and a large statue trail over the winter. These periods are an excellent time to visit as the extra activity is generally always included in the price!

Things to See & Do
Painshill is an award-winning 18th century landscape garden where you are invited to walk around a work of art. Winding paths will take you on a journey to discover a living canvas with beautiful vistas and dramatically placed garden buildings. Stroll around the Serpentine Lake, wander through woodland and promenade past follies, including the Ruined Abbey, Gothic Temple and Turkish Tent.
