Big adventures for you and your little ones!
Come and join us for some big adventures for your little ones this Spring term. Our Parent and Child Forest School sessions are the perfect way to have some family fun in the great outdoors. Every magical session is 1 hour 30 minutes long and includes sensory free play in our woods, arty-crafty making, fun foresty games and exciting outdoor activities; giving children a chance to play and make friends and giving grown-ups a chance to play too!
Mornings (10am – 11:30am) or afternoons (1pm – 2:30pm) on the following…
Week 6: Forest Foragers and Mud Kitchen Cooks!
(Wednesday 8th & Friday 10th February)
As Winter wanes and Spring starts springing it’s a great time to start foraging for food. We will go on a search for wild things to eat before cooking up a wild food feast of herby bread, stinging nettle crisps and pine tree tea (or hot chocolate) with a special spiced coffee for the grown-ups.
Friday 24th February: Wake up Woods!
Spring is springing and all the animals are out and about looking for breakfast. We’ll be making clay hedgehogs and building lovely homes for them to live in before playing noisy games to wake up the animals. For a snack we’ll have a hedgehog’s favourite breakfast, worms on a sticks (don’t worry it’s not real worms!).
Friday 3rd March: World Book Day
Come along dressed up as your favourite story book character, just don’t forget to have all outdoor gear on underneath. We will be sticking and pasting marvellous character masks out of natural materials and delving into the storytelling bag to join in with some of our favourite stories with games and props. Then it’s time to join the tiger for tea around the campfire.
Friday 17th March: Spring Blooms
This week we are being flower explorers. What beautiful blooms do you think we will find? First we will be making flower paintings with natural colours and dyes before having a good sniff and creating a perfectly pongy plant perfume. We’ll turn ourselves in to flower fairies and tree trolls with games in the flower meadow and then try some wild foraged food.
Friday 24th March: Pancake Day
Pancakes are flipping amazing! We’ll be making a play-dough pancake and filling it with interesting ingredients, going on a hunt for the perfect pancake recipe and making yucky, mucky, mud-pie pancakes. Will you be able to flip yours? Then can you guess the snack? Its campfire scotch pancakes for the children and cowboy coffee for the grown-ups.
Friday 21st April: Butterflies
We’ll be watching the butterflies flutter by this week! We’ll be making a butterfly puppet and fluttering about the woods with the caterpillar game before having a look at some really beautiful butterflies and moths in our moth light. We’ll gather around the campfire to have a marshmallow flower snack.
Friday 28th April: Hello Leaves
Say hello to the new, spring leaves with lovely leaf prints before setting off into the jungle on a leaf bug safari with games. We’ll be foraging some tasty leaves and cooking up a herby flat bread snack with a cup of lemony leaf tea.
We go ahead whatever the weather, adapting our activities accordingly. Every session finishes with a special snack round the campfire.
