As part of this preparation and tidying work we completed the annual pruning of the vines in the Vineyard. There are quite a few vines and it takes a large team effort to prune them all. We start by selecting the best “cane” for next year and our “spur”.
With works now well underway on the restoration of The Temple of Bacchus, contractor, Cliveden Conservation, have been working hard over the last year to reinstate the original vision and concept of the brilliantly imaginative designer the Hon. Charles Hamilton.
Over the last few months we have been focusing mainly on clearing the leaves from the main grass areas of the Landscape. We blow/rake together the majority of them into long lines and drive the tractor and trailer along and scoop them into the back
We started the month off with the yearly grape harvest on a glorious early autumn sunny morning. The grapes are all picked by hand by an enthusiastic group of volunteers. It was a good harvest not a bumper crop, but still respectable and clean – we should be sampling the results in 18 months.
