We have made significant progress to rescue, restore and maintain Painshill. However there remains much work still to do. A gift in your Will, after loved ones have been taken care of, will help to protect Painshill for future generations.
You can read our latest blog post about why Painshill member and volunteer, Janice, chose to remember Painshill in her Will.
What is the best way to leave a gift in my Will to Painshill Park Trust?
Often the best way to benefit Painshill is to leave a percentage of what is left of your estate once all other gifts have been made (a ‘residuary’ gift). A gift of just 1% of your estate could make sure your help is there in years to come.
Alternatively you could leave us a sum of money (a ‘pecuniary’ gift), or a specific item, such as shares or jewellery.
Most gifts are for general purposes allowing us to use your gift wherever it is needed most at the time. As a small charity, this is particularly important as our priorities will change over time.
Writing your Will
Here are some examples of wording your solicitor might use:
If you would like to leave a share of your estate (residuary gift):
“I give free of inheritance tax X% of my residuary estate to Painshill Park Trust Ltd of Portsmouth Road, Cobham, Surrey, KT11 1JE, registered charity number 284944, absolutely for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge for my executors.”
If you would like to leave a particular sum of money (pecuniary gift) or a specific item:
“I give free of inheritance tax £X (or the item specified) to Painshill Park Trust Ltd of Portsmouth Road, Cobham, Surrey, KT11 1JE, registered charity number 284944, absolutely for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge for my executors.”
It is essential to seek advice from a legal advisor to ensure your Will is valid.
