2024 marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of William Gilpin (1724-1804) and to celebrate this anniversary, Painshill will display his sketches in the landscape.
To coincide with this trail, the study day will look at Gilpin’s life and theories in relation to his visual and written accounts of Painshill.
Gilpin visited Painshill for the second time on 14 August 1772 and documented his visit by sketching and making notes. 252 years later, join us to look at his original sketchbook of Painshill and learn more about him.
