The story of a great estate and its fascinating owners over three-hundred years. A garden once described by John Aubrey as “So ravishing that I can never expect any enjoyment beyond it, but the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Today a Surrey landscape that has suffered misfortune and neglect, slowly being rediscovered.

The Deepdene was an estate and country house in Dorking once owned by Thomas Hope (see image below ).

Peter is a volunteer at Dorking Museum and Heritage Centre.
