Christmas Special – Tue 3rd Dec 2024

For the Winter term we are running a special series of Outdoor Learning sessions every afternoon to get your children out and about learning in an active, practical and fun way. Every week we will focus on a different part of our amazing natural and historical landscape to explore and investigate. Our sessions will be flexible and we will be able to adapt to children’s needs, ages, ability and interests. Sessions will suit children from 6 – 10 years (year 1 – year 6). If your child has accessibility or learning needs we can accommodate and adapt to ensure all children are included, just contact us to discuss. All day entry to Painshill and accompanying adults are included in the price.
Christmas Special: Christmas Bushcraft TUESDAY 3rd December 2024
Join us for a festive forest school session, exploring the winter woods, crafting gifts using bush craft tools and gathering around the campfire for hot drink and Christmas snack cooked on the fire. Children will be introduced to a range of tools, suitable to their age and ability, under the 1 to 1 supervision of our bushcraft trained Forest School Leader, as well as being given the opportunity to get artistic! Entry to Painshill is included so why not make a day of it and explore Painshill’s 12 Days of Christmas?
Week 1: Wonderful Weather – TUESDAY 7th JANUARY 2025
Time to blow the post Christmas cobwebs away and investigate our wonderful weather and climate. Children will become clouds and rain down on our highlands, creating a river, after examining Painshill for climate clues and playing weather games. At the end we will make our own clouds with a camp fire experiment (and a hot drink!)
Week 2: Autumn Plants – TUESDAY 14th JANUARY 2025
Plant explorers will set off into the gardens and landscape to discover how seeds disperse, investigate how plants grow and explore the broad leaf wood and evergreen garden to discover and identify plants. After our voyage we will end back to the Forest School area and use their imagination and new-found knowledge to create their own mini garden.
Week 3: Cave Painting and Natural Art – TUESDAY 21ST JANUARY 2025
We will be gathering colours and natural materials, (as well as a dose of inspiration!) as we explore the woods. We will investigate textures to create a woodland collage before heading to our forest school area with our finds to get creative, grinding chalk and charcoal, mixing up clay and earth and boiling leaves to make our own natural paints.
Week 4: History Explorers – TUESDAY 28TH JANUARY 2025
We will explore Painshill’s past with games, experiments and archeology. We will start of in the Neolithic age, travel through Roman Britain with the legion, build a Norman castle, before cooking up a Saxon treat on the fire.
Week 5: Wild Life – TUESDAY 4TH FEBRUARY 2025
We explore habitats to see what minibeasts we can find. All children can have great fun peeking under logs and shaking trees, and will have the opportunity to push their investigations further with ID sheets, books and sketch paper if they choose. We will be tracking bigger beasts, looking for tracks, clues and poo, as well as a bit of bird spotting!
Week 6: Forest School and Fire – TUESDAY 11TH FEBRUARY 2025
This week we will follow the children’s interests, spending the session learning, playing, investigating, building, making and getting messy in our forest school area. We have a mud kitchen and muddy play “river”, natural music area, plenty of sticks for den building and crafty ideas. Our Forest School leader guide you around and help you work on your ideas and play. At the end we will build a campfire and have a tasty snack and hot drink.
