Join Painshill’s Poet in Residence, Nia Broomhall, for a creative poetry writing workshop inspired by the natural beauty of Painshill.
Explore the changing seasons, landscapes and natural world through poetry, using Painshill’s beautiful surroundings to spark your imagination. Through guided writing exercises and creative prompts, you’ll discover new ways to capture your observations, thoughts and personal connections with nature in words.
Whether you’re an experienced writer or trying poetry for the first time, this relaxed and welcoming workshop offers the opportunity to slow down, connect with your surroundings and explore your creativity.
No previous writing experience is necessary.
Writing materials will be provided, although you’re welcome to bring your own.
Parts of the workshop will take place outside in the landscape, so please wear suitable clothing and footwear.
Participants must be aged 16 or over.
About Nia
Nia Broomhall is an award-winning poet based in Surrey. She holds an MA with distinction in Creative Writing from Lancaster University. Her debut poetry pamphlet Backalong won the Mslexia Poetry Pamphlet Prize and was published by Bloodaxe Books in 2024, and her poems have been widely published and commended. After 25 years as a secondary school teacher, Nia now writes full time, running poetry workshops and events in schools and the community. Our Poet in Residence since 2024, Nia describes Painshill as her ‘happy place’ and loves running workshops and poetry projects in the landscape, as well as using it to inspire her own writing. Originally from rural Somerset, she comes from a long line of West Country women who talk to strangers and embarrass their children.
