Get into the festive spirit with a relaxing and creative Christmas workshop at Painshill, set in our Cascade Room overlooking the River Mole.
Enjoy a warm drink and a mince pie as you create your own collection of beautiful, hand-painted Christmas cards, taking inspiration from winter foliage gathered from Painshill’s historic landscape.
Using a combination of delicate watercolour washes, vibrant gouache and pencil techniques, you’ll learn to capture the colours and details of seasonal botanicals, from evergreen sprigs and mistletoe wreaths to festive berries and winter foliage.
With guidance throughout the workshop, you’ll transform these natural materials into your own festive designs, creating a collection of unique Christmas cards to share with friends and family.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some painting experience, this workshop offers a lovely opportunity to get creative, unwind and enjoy a little festive cheer.
You’ll leave with five original, hand-painted Christmas cards, complete with matching envelopes and protective sleeves, ready to send to loved ones.
Courtney Jinsook Bae (b. 1986) is a Korean-American artist, born in Australia and based in London. Bae paints in oil, depicting raw and highly expressive portraiture, figuration, and landscape. She is drawn to the relationship between traumas and resilience, exploring identity formation and human purpose. Bae uses her painting as an impetus for positive cultural movement.
Bae paints with fluid “smushy” strokes that are contrasted against whimsical marksmanship. Her artistic practice is defined by a balance between reality and an internal dialogue which is linked to visceral experiences and emotions.
Bae graduated with a BA in Graphic Design from Southern New Hampshire University in New York in 2015. She gained national recognition in the UK when she was featured as a Semi-finalist on the national television series, Sky Portrait Artist of the Year in 2025. Bae has held solo exhibitions in at the Bermondsey Project Space, London and the Sideshow Gallery, Brooklyn. Her work has featured at the Saatchi Gallery, The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, and Denise Bibro Fine Art, New York.
