Nia Broomhall is an award-winning poet based in Surrey. She holds an MA with distinction in Creative Writing from Lancaster University. Her debut poetry pamphlet Backalong won the Mslexia Poetry Pamphlet Prize and was published by Bloodaxe Books in 2024, and her poems have been widely published and commended. After 25 years as a secondary school teacher, Nia now writes full time, running poetry workshops and events in schools and the community. Our Poet in Residence since 2024, Nia describes Painshill has her ‘happy place’ and loves running workshops and poetry projects in the landscape, as well as using it to inspire her own writing. Originally from rural Somerset, she comes from a long line of West Country women who talk to strangers and embarrass their children.
