Location: Lawn toward Ruined Roman Arch
A native evergreen tree or small shrub, almost every part of the Common Yew is poisonous – which is perhaps why it is frequently found in folklore and superstition. Its deep, fluted, mahogany-coloured bark is captivating and looks even more impressive when it rains, drawing out the rich, darker tone, and its red berries take on a gorgeous translucent colour when the sun shines through them. Despite its toxicity, the Yew’s leaves are used in medicine to help treat cancer.
