Painshill warmly welcomes pre-booked groups of 10 or more, offering a memorable day out for social groups, clubs and special interest societies. Enjoy reduced group admission rates, complimentary benefits for group leaders and coach drivers, and the flexibility to tailor your visit to suit your group.

Specialist tours with a member of the gardening team are also available, offering insight into Painshill’s historic plantings and seasonal highlights.

Our team is happy to help plan your visit and can assist with catering arrangements, function room hire and accessibility requirements.

A 30 minute introductory talk provides helpful context and background before you explore Painshill at your own pace.

The Historic Lake Tour

Explore Painshill on a guided walking tour along the Historic Route around the lake. Discover beautiful views and hear the story of the garden and its creator, the Hon. Charles Hamilton, as you visit Fir Walk, the Crystal Grotto, Woollett Bridge, the Five Arch Bridge and the Turkish Tent. Allow 1.5 hours.

Group Visits - The Grand Tour

Hamilton’s Grand Tour

Cover the complete 160 acres of Painshill on this extended tour, building on the Historic Lake Tour. Follow the full historic route past the Waterwheel to the Hermitage and Gothic Tower, returning via the Temple of Bacchus and the Turkish Tent. Allow 3 hours.

Enhance your group visit with optional refreshments, from drinks on arrival to a light lunch or afternoon tea. Catering can be enjoyed in one of our rooms available to hire, providing a comfortable space to relax before or after exploring Painshill.

Vines and Wine

Follow a guide on a journey to discover Painshill’s wine. Walk through the Vineyard and up towards the newly restored Temple of Bacchus where you can enjoy a wine tasting and breath-taking views of the Surrey landscape.

The Gardener’s Tour

Starting in the Walled Garden, follow a member of our landscape team and learn how the Painshill seeds and plantings were obtained. Join them around the landscape to see some of the many species of plants and trees that thrive in the garden, as well as learning all of the seasonal work involved in maintaining the garden.

Joint Tours

Looking to maximise your visit? We’ve teamed up with other local attractions to offer you joint tours so you can visit two places in one day.

Two Tours are more

Joint tours between Painshill and West Horsley Place. After an introductory talk on the History of Painshill and its creator, Hon. Charles Hamilton, your group can explore the beautiful landscape at their own leisure.

Allow time for lunch before going to West Horsley Place, just 20 minutes drive away, for a tour of the historic house.

For the first time in 600 years, West Horsley Place, no longer in private hands, has opened its gates for groups to enjoy.

This hidden gem has over 1,000 years of amazing history.

Discover what Henry V111 had for lunch in the Stone Hall and see the bag that Walter Raleigh’s head was carried in; Enjoy Lord Crewe’s impressive library and Sir Anthony Browne’s glorious Tudor ceiling.

Follies and Vines

Enjoy a joint tour of Painshill, and family-run vineyard Denbies. One of the UK’s largest wine producers, Denbies was one of the first vineyards in the world to give visitors a unique and fascinating insight into the wine production process all year round.

After a 30 min introductory talk on the history of Painshill and its creator Hon. Charles Hamilton, your group can explore the beautiful landscape at their own leisure.

Then head off for a tour of Denbies Wines Estate for their ‘Indoor Wine Tasting Experience’. The tour starts in the cinema featuring ‘The Vineyard Through the Seasons’. Learn about the geology and history of the estate and experience the changes in the vineyard through the seasons and appreciate the wine making process from vine to bottle. Once the film is completed guests are guided through three of Denbies classic wines with one of their Wine Experts.

Just a little over 12 miles apart Denbies is the perfect combination of destinations for your day out. Combining history, architecture, stunning landscape and grounds, as well as spectacular English wine.

Brooklands joint tour

Landscape to Land Speed

In conjunction with Brooklands Motor Museum, the home of Aviation (including Concorde) and the birthplace of British motor sport, experience a packed day of both attractions.

Arrive first at Painshill for a talk on the Historical Landscape after which you can follow the walking route at your own leisure before heading off to Brooklands for a introduction film on the history of Brooklands museum followed by your own free time to explore and discover. 

Includes arrival refreshments and a grab’n’go picnic lunch at Painshill.

Things to See & Do

Painshill is an award-winning 18th century landscape garden where you are invited to walk around a work of art. Winding paths will take you on a journey to discover a living canvas with beautiful vistas and dramatically placed garden buildings. Stroll around the Serpentine Lake, wander through woodland and promenade past follies, including the Ruined Abbey, Gothic Temple and Turkish Tent.
