Mick Crawley

Mick Crawley is Emeritus Professor of Plant Ecology at Imperial College London. At Silwood Park in Ascot, he is the holder of a Plant Heritage National Collection of Quercus at Silwood Park with 225 taxa. He was a Trustee of the Royal Horticultural Society (2015-2025) and twice a Trustee of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (1996-2002 and 2011-2014). He served on the Executive Committee of the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland for 27 years (1990-2016). He is a member of the RHS Woody Plants Expert Group, and one of the three Garden Advisors at RHS Bridgewater in Manchester. Author of the Flora of Berkshire (2005), Flora of East Sutherland (2012), Flora of St Kilda (2017) and London’s Plants (2026).

His scientific career involved the study of plant herbivore interactions all over the world. He is still in charge of several long-term field experiments started more than 45 years ago at Silwood Park, Imperial College London’s field station near Ascot. In recognition of this scientific work, he was elected to the Royal Society in 2002.
