5 things to enjoy at Painshill in December

It is officially December; gloves, hats and scarves you must remember!

It’s the start of advent, chocolate calendars, the return of the elf, and a more socially acceptable time to eat chocolate or delicious cake for breakfast, and lets not forget the glistening ground and the sparkling trees.

The frosty, low mist mornings are settling in and this is a perfect time to enjoy the festive season. Take a walk within the winter landscape and crunch along the ground of fallen leaves across a crystal glaze of frost.

1. A Christmas gift for The Hermitage

The Hermitage, set within the woodland at the western end of the park, is somewhat a mystical story and history, dating back to the mid-eighteenth century.

Amongst the other follies at Painshill, the Hermitage is an important feature within the landscape. Views from the Hermitage open out into the countryside, and the Surrey Hills beyond. This is a perfect trip for the festive winter season. Wrap up with some winter warmers and set off the visit this fine example of 18th century taste and fashion.

After being restored in 2004 to its natural form, time has since passed and the roof of the Hermitage was again in need of being re-thatched. Our magical team at Painshill along with dedicated craftsmen, full of expertise, began the task of re-thatching the new roof.

We are thrilled to announce, on the 1st December, the Hermitage is now open along with an early Christmas present of a newly thatched roof.
