Charles Hamilton, who created a series of subtle and surprising vistas between 1738 and 1773 - it was a pleasure ground for fashionable society. Now undergoing a unique and faithful restoration by a charitable Trust - Europa Nostra Medal winner for “exemplary restoration”.
Within Painshill Park’s 160 acres, The Hamilton Landscapes – which include the Gothic Temple, Chinese Bridge, Crystal Grotto, 18th century plantings, Turkish Tent, Gothic Tower, newly restored Hermitage, working vineyard, giant Waterwheel feeding a 14 acre serpentine lake – are a work of art.
